Hello Everyone! Exciting things are happening here at Mitchell Headquarters!!!.... I am working on a super cool video that has some awesome ideas for summer art making. You can do these with your family members, or alone, or even with loved ones who live far away! You can view the Summer Art Ideas Video HERE! If you visit the Home Art Links section of this blog, you will find most of the resources I mention in the (upcoming) video. I will also be posting ideas, tips and videos on my Art Room Instagram account this summer. You can follow the art room Instagram @artwithmrs.mitchell HERE

Hello C.P. Smith Humans! This is our last week of school, and there is no new art menu this week. However, I DO have a challenge for you. I think this week would be a good time to create some art - maybe a card or a picture - to express your gratitude to a teacher, paraeducator, chef or staff member at school. Here are the steps: 1. Name at least 3 people you wish to thank and express your appreciation. 2. Draw a picture or write a letter. Make it fun and colorful if you can! 3. Mail the letter to them! The address is: <Name> c/o C.P. Smith Elementary School, 332 Ethan Allan Parkway, Burlington, VT 05408. The people you choose will love hearing from you, and receiving a picture or a letter, because we have missed learning and laughing with you each day! On Wednesday I will post some great summer resources for drawing! This year we had a small number of student art work selected for display at the statehouse in Montpelier as part of the annual Vermont Art Teachers Association Youth Art Month Art Show (say that 10 times fast!). Last week I was able to pick up the art work. Here is a gallery of C.P Smith Artwork from the show. Enjoy!
One of the most wonderful and powerful things an artist can do, is use their art as a way to express themselves. We all have so many thoughts, feelings, emotions, concerns and ideas about so many things, and we can use our art to share all of this with family, friends - even the world! This week, I am asking you to listen to a song or think about a dream, and create a piece of art. Music: Close your eyes and listen to your favorite song. As you hear the music, what do you “see” in your head? Do you see… *Images * Colors* Lines* Patterns * Shapes* ? Above, is Kandinsky's "Composition #8" - a non-representational response to music, using shape, color, line and more! *******Make a piece of art that shows what you SEE when you listen to your song. Dream: Think about a dream you had. ● Who was in the dream? ● What happened? ● Where was it? ● How did it make you feel? Draw a picture of your dream. Below, you can see Vermont Artist Will Kasso Condry's "I Am Queen Mother". Kasso lives in Addison County and has created both murals and fine art all over northern Vermont. You can learn more about him by following him on Instagram. *******Create a piece of art that illustrates a dream. |
