With everything happening in the world right now, it is clear to me that the most important aspect of our art program is the PROCESS of MAKING art and the DISCOVERY of our voice. While we will most certainly weave in our amazing art vocabulary, how to properly care for our art supplies, and meet many different artists, authors and illustrators, this year we will be focusing on making art through a therapy lens. We will also be paying attention to the intersection of art and race, learning about Art as Activism, and how Artists play a key role in changing the world!
In fact, this approach is rooted in Vermont State Art Standards: CREATING :Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work. RESPONDING: Perceive and analyze art work CONNECTING: Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art.
If you have any questions about this approach, please reach out !
In addition, I have three handouts created by the Art of Education, which are overviews of each grade band's content. Think vocabulary and methods. While this year is different, and we will be inserting many of these concepts into our creating and learning, these will be a secondary focus. You may read these by clicking below.
